NY Times' Margaret Sullivan challenges 'misspoke' editorial

Conservatives piled on the New York Times Sunday for publishing an editorial that said President Obama"clearly misspoke" when he promised Americans they could keep their existing health insurance plans even after Obamacare was passed. The Times' Public Editor Margaret Sullivan added weigh to their criticism on her blog at the paper's website.

“'[M]isspoke' does suggest a one-time slip of the tongue," she wrote Monday:

Wouldn’t it have been better, I asked [Editorial Page Editor Andrew] Rosenthal, if the editorial had said that Mr. Obama’s statements “clearly weren’t true,” or that the president “was clearly wrong” when he repeatedly made those statements?

He responded that the editorial’s language was fine, but he also allowed, “We could have done that.”
