Joe Scarborough to GOP: Drop Tea Party 'Political Amateurs' -- or Watch Democrats Transform Gov't for Next 50 Years

"You’re going to have Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton picking Supreme Court justices for six years and shaping the way our federal government’s run."

MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough said the Republican party "brand's been battered” over last year and half because of Tea Party candidates who are blind toward catering to the middle of America, which the GOP sorely needs if its to win in upcoming elections.

“Forget their ideology — they're political amateurs” Scarborough said on "Meet the Press" Sunday, which focused on his book, "The Right Path."

"You’ve got to be relevant to the center of America," Scarborough said. "People forget this, but Republicans used to be the party to beat. Every four years Democrats would pull their hair out because they knew we’d figure out how to reach the middle of America…We’ve lost that.”

“I say this to my very conservative friends,” he said. “We’ve got to figure out a way to move forward together. Or else you’re going to have Hillary Clinton for two terms. You’re going to have Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton picking Supreme Court justices for six years and shaping the way our federal government’s run. That will transform government for 50 years.”

Scarborough added that the tactics used by GOP politicians in the midst of the government shutdown was akin to "running up the middle on 4th and 31 because you think it makes you look like more of a man. No! You're gonna lose. Punt the ball!"
