Bill Maher: Rand Paul only one 'who gives a damn' on civil liberties

A noteworthy moment in the "Overtime" segment of HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" Friday night.

"I'd like to see somebody on the right who gives a damn about civil liberties besides [Republican Kentucky Sen.] Rand Paul," Maher posed to the panel. "The last one before that is Bob Barr."

Mattie Duppler of the conservative Americans for Tax Reform replied by asking Maher to identify the Democrats' answer to Paul. "He's our one," she said. "Who's yours?"

"You're right," Maher conceeded. "You're right."

Paul carved out a niche for himself as a civil liberties defender, most memorably for his 13-hour active filibuster in March to delay the confirmation of John Brennan, then President Obama's nominee for CIA director.
