Still Think 'Conservatives Don't Read'? Check Out the Amazon Best-Seller List

"Of the top ten books that are for sale right now, how many of them are conservative history books?"

Glenn Beck told his radio audience Wednesday that there is a commonly held assumption in most publishing circles that "conservatives don't read."

But a quick look at the Amazon best-seller list paints a wildly different story, he said.

"Of the top 10 books that are for sale right now, how many of them are conservative history books? Or written by a conservative?" Beck asked. "You have (Charles) Krauthammer, you have Rush Limbaugh, me, Brian Kilmeade, Bill O'Reilly..."

The "best sellers in books" list is updated hourly on Amazon, but here's what it looked like around noon on Wednesday:

Beck noted that at least five of the top 10 titles were written by conservatives, and the others are children's books, cookbooks, or for the general public.

"The only thing that cracks the top ten that could be considered liberal is (The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism) by Doris Kearns Goodwin," Beck's co-host Pat Gray said.

And Beck noted that even that is a history-centered book.

"I just want to point this out because I think this is really good news. This shows what America is consuming," Beck said. "Think of this. Nobody in the mainstream media is doing American history ... nobody is producing this stuff on television. You're not seeing the movies being made. But look at the appetite for real American history. Look at the appetite for conservative views."

Beck said that while progressives are "trying to change (history) through Common Core and the universities," Americans are taking it upon themselves to learn about the events of the past.

"I will tell you that this country ... will be lost if we don't know history. It will be lost if we don't have a handle on what our true history is," Beck said. "Please make sure that you pass this on to the youth. I don't care which one of those (books) you buy. Obviously ours is called Miracles and Massacres, and it was written for you who love the flag ... and the people who think that we're just nothing but a bad country."

"You will be shocked at the true story of America," Beck remarked. "It's both good and bad. It's both a miracle and a massacre."
