Castration': School Official Says Transgender Kids Must Change 'the Plumbing' Before Using Preferred Bathrooms

Comments made by a school board official in Colorado have sparked controversy after the official said transgender students would need to be castrated before using bathrooms meant for the opposite sex.

Svenson said boys and girls in public schools should use the bathrooms associated with their born genders and that they cannot use opposite gender bathrooms until "the plumbing" has been changed.

"Massachusetts and California have passed laws relating to calling a student, irrespective of his biological gender, letting him perform as the gender he thinks he is, or she is, and I want to emphasize, and they're actually talking about joining girls sports teams going in the girls locker rooms and bathrooms, and I just want to emphasize not in this district," she said.

Svenson added, "Not until the plumbing's changed. There would have to be castration in order to pass something like that around here."

As the Huffington Post reported, Svenson referenced a recent bill that was signed into law in California. Assembly Bill 1266 allows students in kindergarten through 12th grade to use whichever bathrooms and to play on whichever sports teams align with their gender identities.

KREX-TV interviewed Svenson after her comments. Rather than backing down, she defended her words.

The comments, she said, were an effort to alert her fellow board members that these issues could soon be heading to the Delta, Colo., community.

"I don't have a problem if some boys think they are girls. I'm just saying as long as they can impregnate a woman, they're not going to go in girls locker room," Svenson said.

Assistant Superintendent Kurt Clay told KREX the district is intent on meeting individual kids' needs.

"We truly believe in Delta County School District, that every student has different needs, and that we are here to address those individual needs," Clay said.

Svenson acknowledged to KREX that a fellow board member had heard from people in her district who were upset by her comments.

Svenson did not return telephone or email requests for comment from TheBlaze.
