Please, Please I Have a Son': The Frantic 911 Call From a Man Trapped During a High-Speed Chase and the Dramatic Way He Escaped

Little did Henry Griffen know that when he accepted a ride home in a Ferrari he would end up in the middle of a police chase and jumping from the car in fear for his life.

Meeting 42-year-old Joseph Shaun Goodman at Westside Tavern in Olympia, Wash., Sunday, Griffen might have looked forward to a ride home in the fancy sports car, but he likely never expected that he would end up begging Goodwin to slow down as he was chased by police.

"I was just begging him 'please, please, I have a son,'" Griffen told a 911 operator Sunday after he escaped from the speeding car.

The chase, which began after 11 p.m. Sunday, according to The Olympian, clocked up to 50 mph, though KOMO-TV put it at up to 100 mph. Speeding around Olympia's downtown, the driver allegedly ran red lights, hopped curbs and bottomed out, spending up sparks as pieces of the $70,000 car's undercarriage dragged, the newspaper reported.

Eventually, KOMO reported, Goodman slowed enough at an intersection that Griffen jumped out.

As the chase continued, Goodman allegedly crashed into two other vehicles and someone's home.

"He smashed into all of my flower pots that were here, and into the side of the garage," homeowner Robin Rettew told KOMO.

Police caught up to Goodman in a church parking lot, according to KOMO.

After being arrested, Goodman's blood alcohol level was tested and registered at twice the legal limit. The news station reported that the man previously had six DUIs and recently graduated from a DUI court class, a program that allows one DUI charge to be dismissed.

In court Monday, Thurston County Superior Court Judge James Dixon said Goodman's driving was "akin to an individual with a loaded gun walking though downtown firing rounds."

Still, Dixon released Goodman on $75,000 bail, according to The Olympian, with the stipulation that he not consume any alcohol. Goodman is required to wear a bracelet that will alert authorities should he drink any alcohol.

According to The Olympian, the judge denied Goodman's request that he be allowed to travel to Las Vegas for a planned soccer tournament in January.

"I would be doing not only this community, but also you a disservice if I allowed you to go to the state of Nevada," Dixon said to Goodman, according to the newspaper. "You are not to leave the state of Washington."
