CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Police say an 88-year-old man shot and wounded a woman at a Carson City hospital.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says William Dresser was arrested Sunday after firing one shot at the woman with a handgun on the third floor of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. No other injuries were reported.

Furling said the suspect and the victim were in a domestic relationship but declined to elaborate. The woman's identity was not immediately released.

The woman's condition was unknown, and she was transferred to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Correctional officers were safeguarding another patient when the shooting occurred, officials told KTVN-TV in Reno, and they are credited for helping subdue the suspect.

The Carson City hospital issued a statement saying the shooting was "a targeted situation" that prompted a temporary lockdown of the facility.

The shooting comes nearly a month after a gunman walked into a medical facility next to the Reno hospital and killed one doctor and shot another before committing suicide.
