The Way a Dying Man Is Fulfilling the Promise He Made to His Daughter Displays How Strong a Father’s Love Truly Is

Garth Callaghan is dying. He has been diagnosed with cancer three times in two years and doctors give him just an 8 percent chance of living another five years.

But he is determined to keep a promise he made to his daughter.

Ever since his daughter, Emma, was in second grade, Callaghan, 44, has written uplifting notes on napkins he includes in her lunches. He promised her she would get one every day until she graduates from high school.

Rather than accepting that his diagnosis may make that impossible, the father began writing the notes to his daughter in advance. He needs 826 notes to get her through high school — and he’s almost there. The blog BecauseISaidIWould.com noted earlier this week that Callaghan had written 740, leaving just 86 more needed.
