Here's How Much Some Union Activists Hate the Koch Brothers

Activists protested a New York City hospital over the weekend for its decision to accept a monetary donation from political mega-donor David Koch.

Groups including the New York State Nurses’ Association, the NAACP New York State Conference and SEIU Local 1199 held banners and chanted songs in protest of New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s plans to add an ambulatory care center, to be called the David H. Koch Center.

The new addition to the hospital is being made possible in part by a $100 million donation from David Koch, one-half of the wealthy conservative Koch brothers, who have in recent years been targeted by left-leaning politicians, pundits and activists.

But despite the fact that David Koch gave what is reportedly the largest donation in the hospital’s history, according to the Washington Free Beacon, and despite the fact that the donation will presumably create dozens of jobs for nurses, anti-Koch and union activists are outraged that the hospital accepted his money.

Activists organized the protest on International Women’s Day and emphasized the Kochs' supposed funding of the “war on women’s reproductive rights … and many other issues of concern to American women.”

Protesters also charged that the Kochs are guilty of being the main drivers of efforts “to defeat and repeal health care to all Americans.”

Protesters were joined by New York City Councilman Ben Kallos, who represents the district where the new care center will be built.

Kallos' participation marks the latest in a series of politicians who have spoken out recently against the Koch brothers, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee last week debuted KochAddiction.com to highlight the Kochs' supposed agenda.
