Stunning Video: Semi Driver's 'Very Close Call' Caught on Dashcam

He leaned down to pick up a pen. That's all the driver of a semitruck did that caused him to cross over a grassy highway median and two lanes of traffic coming the opposite direction.

Captured on a dashboard camera mounted on another truck, the semi can be seen barreling over an Iowa interstate narrowly missing another rig.

"Very close call. It could have been a lot worse than it was," Sgt. Scott Bright with the Iowa State Police told KCCI-TV of the incident.

Fortunately, the driver made it off the road without incident and was able to stop in the grass.

"It's really common for other drivers to not be paying attention," Cody Walker, an attorney who started an advocacy campaign against distracted driving, told the news station. "So it's really important in today's world to really be driving defensively."

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Association, in 2012 3,328 people were killed in distracted driving accidents.
