Beck Says Americans Must Look to This 'If We Are Going to Rebuild Our Nation and Keep People Free

Glenn Beck was the featured convocation speaker at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, Friday, and he told the audience of roughly 10,000 people that "if we are going to rebuild our nation and keep people free, we have to look at the source" of that freedom.

"You can't say, 'I want to be a French chef,' and know nothing about how to make a sauce," he said. "You have to know what the blueprint is. And the blueprint for freedom, the blueprint of the western world, is the scripture."

Beck said Americans have been "blessed to live in a time unlike humans have ever seen," but freedom is "slipping through our fingers."

"And the more political answers that we try to find, the more lost in darkness we become," he added. "The more we try to find the answers through science, through technology, the more lost we become."

Beck then showed his audience a number of World War II-era artifacts, showing the badges the Nazis forced Jews, gypsies, immigrants, gays and capitalists to wear, respectively.

"And this one," Beck said, holding up another artifact. "What got you sent to the concentration camp with a purple triangle? You were a Bible scholar! The Bible is the enemy to fascists."

Beck also showed the personal Bibles of famous historical figures who ruled in tumultuous times, like France's Louis XV.

"If you look at the gilding, it's perfect! Beck said. "It's never been read!"

"What do your scriptures look like?" he asked. "Will somebody someday say, 'This was my mom's, this was my dad's ... Look, they are in perfect condition.' Or will they have been pored over, dog-eared, written in?"

Beck said "man is free because of the scriptures, because of the message of Jesus Christ." He also cautioned that many appear to be worshiping "the god of the Constitution," rather than the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

"We are free and we are peaceful when we listen, and shod our feet in the gospel of peace," Beck said. "The world changes."
