Graham to 'Delusional' Obama: Talk With Iran Because Iraq Is 'Another 9/11 in the Making
June 15, 2014
"...stubborn-headed, delusional, detached President..."
On CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham laid into President Barack Obama's foreign policy, especially regarding Iraq — and he offered some surprising suggestions.
"I'm sorry," host Dana Bash interrupted seconds into the segment. "It's sort of hard for me to believe that I'm hearing a Republican saying, 'Sit down and talk with Iran.'"
As Iraq descends into chaos, Graham said, Iran stands to benefit and America stands to lose, so it's of paramount importance that the U.S. bring regional players to the table.
"The number of people that could die in (the United States) from getting this wrong is gonna be far greater than 4,000 because (terrorists) are getting weapons they didn't have before," Graham said. "This is another 9/11 in the making."
The foreign policy of a "stubborn-headed, delusional, detached President" has proven insufficient, Graham said, and it's time for a change.
The U.S. needs to creatively and assertively support the Iraqi central government and stop the advance of the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS), Graham stressed.
"If we don't," he said, "God help us because we're next."
