"Despicable and insulting to the hundreds of thousands non-Anglos..."

State Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer said at the Texas Democratic Convention that "GOP" stands for “gringos y otros pendejos,” the Houston Chronicle reported.

The word "gringo" is sometimes used as a derogatory term to mean "white foreigner." "Pendejo" can mean "asshole," "fool" or "idiot."

Martinez Fischer — a supporter of Texas Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wendy Davis — had also been handing out trading cards depicting GOP gubernatorial nominee Greg Abbott as "el diablito," or "the devil," and one depicting Davis as "la valiente" or "the brave."

“Wendy Davis and her allies beliefs that all Anglos and Republicans are ‘gringos’ and ‘pendejos’ is both despicable and insulting to the hundreds of thousands non-Anglos that support Greg Abbott, including his own multicultural family,” Abbott campaign spokesman Avdiel Huerta said.

Abbott’s wife is Mexican-American.

Martinez Fischer doubled down on his GOP remarks, according to the Chronicle.

“I stand by my words,” he said. “I did not know Greg Abbott was at the convention to hear me, and if I had known that I would told him directly to his face.”

Abbot's campaign also stirred controversy when a campaign aide tweeted last week that a live stream of a Davis speech had 666 viewers, writing, “Wow a sign! Look at the number of viewer! (sic)”

“Given that Greg Abbott, his campaign and his allies have compared Wendy Davis to Hitler, Satan and a Barbie doll, their fake outrage today is both pathetic and predictable,” Davis spokesman Zac Petkanas said.
