This Is What It Looks Like When an F-15 Strikes an Oil Refinery in Syria as Part of Effort to ‘Defeat’ Islamic State

"The United States conducted this strike as part of the President’s comprehensive strategy to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL."

Video posted online Thursday shows what happens when an F-15 strikes an oil refinery in Syria as part of the U.S.' ongoing effort to "degrade and ultimately defeat" the Islamic State terror group.

The footage shows the refinery explode Wednesday after being selected for an airstrike.

"The United States conducted this strike as part of the President’s comprehensive strategy to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL," CENTCOM wrote on YouTube. "Going forward, the U.S. military will continue to conduct targeted airstrikes against ISIL in Syria and Iraq as local forces go on the offensive against this terrorist group."

On Wednesday, CENTCOM announced strikes were targeting refineries, saying in a statement that they "provideduel to run ISIL operations, money to finance their continued attacks throughout Iraq and Syria, and an economic asset to support their future operations."

"Producing between 300-500 barrels of refined petroleum per day, ISIL is estimated to generate as much as $2 million per day from these refineries," the statement said. "The destruction and degradation of these targets further limits ISIL's ability to lead, control, project power and conduct operations."
