When a 10-Year-Old Girl Scout Realized She Was Being Robbed, She Wasn't Giving Up Without a Fight

"He's looking around, looking at the cookies..."

A group of Girl Scouts selling cookies outside of a grocery store over the weekend were robbed of their cash box, but they didn't let it go easily.

Sophia Contos, 10, was manning the Girl Scouts' table outside of a Safeway in San Jose, California, where customers could purchase boxes of Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Samoas to name a few. Sunday afternoon a man later identified as 23-year-old Cody Gintz approached the table and allegedly nabbed the girls' cash box, which held about $600, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

"He's looking around, looking at the cookies, and I keep my hands on the box," Contos told KNTV-TV.

Contos said he tried to jerk the box away and she pulled back, but in the end he was too strong and overcame her own efforts to protect the box.

"To steal from a kid who has been working hard, it's just horrible. We're devastated," troop leader Marita Beard told the news station.

Not to be taken advantage of too easily, the Mercury News reported that the Girls Scouts took town the license plate number of his car. When police found and arrested him, all of the money was retrieved. What's more, the police bought $240 worth of cookies and made it an even $300 with a $60 donation, according to the newspaper.
