Child Took Matter Into His Own Hands After Mom Left Him and His Brothers in the Car
March 27, 2015
"She's a single mom and she's trying to do the best she can."
Last summer, parents leaving their children in cars on hot days became a nationwide topic, especially after a toddler died from overheating in such a situation. This time hot weather wasn't the problem, and it wasn't a bystander who called for help, but a 6-year-old who was inside the car.
WXYZ-TV reported that this boy called 911 from a cold car with his two younger brothers, saying his mother was "being mean" and left them in there while she was in the library.
According to the news station, the boys had initially been with her in the Monroe, Michigan, library as well, but when they began misbehaving, she put them in the car. She then went back inside to finish work on the computer. The doors were unlocked and the windows open on the 30-degree day.
Listen to the 911 call in WXYZ-TVs report:
The Associated Press reported that the children were left in the car for 12 minutes. Though the children were "in good spirits" when police arrived and remained in the mother's custody, the report stated that she could face unattended child and child abuse charges.
"She indicated to us she's a single mom and she's trying to do the best she can with these three children, Monroe Police Detective John Wall told WXYZ of the incident.
