Michael Brown’s Family to File Civil Lawsuit Against the City of Ferguson Alleging Wrongful Death
April 22, 2015
The family of Michael Brown announced in a statement through their attorney Wednesday night that they will file a civil lawsuit against the City of Ferguson for wrongful death.
The family will formally announce the filing of the civil suit during a press conference outside the St. Louis County Courthouse Thursday morning. Their legal counsel will then speak with members of the media.
In November, a grand jury decided not to indict former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for fatally shooting Brown.
The decision sparked unrest in the Missouri suburb, with rioters looting and setting fire to vehicles and local businesses. At the time, Brown's mother strongly rejected the grand jury's decision, shouting after it was announced, "Y'all know you're all wrong!"
