Police in Texas say a man was shot several times by a homeowner after breaking into the house through the doggy door.

At around 10 a.m. Thursday, police near San Antonio received a report of a home invasion. The suspect, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, suffered life-threatening injuries, according to My San Antonio.

When the 50-year-old homeowner came come to find his belongings scattered throughout the house, he grabbed a handgun and confronted the suspect. The home invader was shot several times, including in the upper body and at least once in the head.

The suspect was then taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center. His name was not released.

Authorities did not said what, if any, charges the suspect could face if he survives because of an ongoing investigation, My San Antonio reported.
