Republican presidential hopeful Chris Christie drew chuckles from the crowd Monday night when he addressed the topic of birth control at a town hall meeting in Manchester, New Hampshire. But perhaps the best reaction in the crowd was a silent one.
"I'm a Catholic, but I've used birth control and not just the rhythm method," the New Jersey governor said.
Some laughed at the mention of this latter natural family planning method — which involves avoiding unprotected sex on days when a woman might be most fertile — while the man in the white shirt and red tie simply put his forehand in his hand. He seemed to later play it off as an itch.
"My church has a teaching against birth control. Does that make me an awful Catholic, because I believe and practiced that function during that part of my life? I don't think so," Christie continued. "But you know what, I'm only going to find out when it's my time to be judged."
