Father and His Kids Were Out to Catch Some Tuna — Instead, They Reeled in This 483-Pound Predator

Whoa.

Mike Evensen fishing with his kids this weekend when they got a lot more than they bargained for.

Evensen said they were fishing for tuna off the coast of Provincetown, Massachusetts, on Sunday when a massive porbeagle shark latched onto their fishing hook.

But that was the easy part.

According to WFXT-TV, it took Evensen and his kids, Cameron and Hanna, about an hour to reel in their near-record-setting catch, and another hour to hand line it into the boat.

Evensen said he knew it was a porbeagle when he saw the white patch near its dorsal fin.

Once they got the huge fish back to the dock, the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries came and weighed it at a whopping 483 pounds — just shy, unfortunately, of the 490-pound state record.
