Listen to 'Morning Joe' Co-Host's Response After Joe Scarborough Says Gun Confiscation 'Never Going to Happen' in U.S.

"Do we really trust the federal government to know where all the guns are? The same federal government that runs the IRS and is capable of doing what they’re doing."

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough criticized President Barack Obama on Monday morning for “talking about confiscating guns like they did in Australia” and said “that’s never going to happen” in the United States.

His co-host, Mika Brzezinski, replied after a brief pause, “Why?”

“Because we have a Second Amendment,” Scarborough replied.

The exchange on Monday’s “Morning Joe” shows just how divisive the current gun debate remains in the U.S. following a tragic shooting in Oregon that left nine people and the shooter dead.

While Scarborough argued something needs to be done to address school shootings, he warned against pushing for knee-jerk gun legislation intended only to make people “feel better.”

“Do we really trust the federal government to know where all the guns are? The same federal government that runs the IRS and is capable of doing what they’re doing,” Scarborough said. “I don’t think that most Americans would want confiscation or want the federal government to have a national database.”

When Scarborough asked if the federal government should immediately know when an American citizen buys a gun, Brzezinski said, “Yes, actually.”
