Police Investigating Mystery Surrounding Shocking Mother-Son Murder-Suicide at Nursing Home
October 26, 2015
"At this point that's what we're speculating."
Police in New Jersey are trying to figure out what led a 62-year-old man to murder his 85-year-old mother in a nursing home.
Police said George Buller III went to Genesis HealthCare in Voorhees, New Jersey, to visit his mother, Andree Buller. The two had dinner together, but afterward, George Buller III fatally shot the elderly woman in her private room and then shot and killed himself.
"It's unknown exactly where the gun was or if he did go out to retrieve the gun," Voorhees Township Police Deputy Chief Bill Donnelly told WCAU-TV. "At this point, that's what we're speculating, because he did leave the facility and come back inside."
Donnelly said that nobody heard any yelling or arguing prior to the fatal shooting. After shots rang out, staff members cleared residents out of that wing and into a safe place while police investigated. No one else was hurt, but other residents and their visitors were shaken up.
Gladys Christopher, whose mother and father live at the facility, wasn't inside at the time but rushed in shortly after to make sure they weren't injured.
"I wanted to make sure my mom's OK, my father's OK. They're both in there," Christopher said.
"I feel horrible," Mike Vizoco, whose father lives at the nursing home, said. "I mean, everybody's happy that their loved one is OK, my dad, too, but I feel horrible."
