RNC Spokesman Sean Spicer Says TheBlaze is a 'Top Consideration' to Host GOP Debate

"There's some top-notch journalists there throughout the different platforms TheBlaze has."

Republican National Committee Chief Strategist and Communications Director Sean Spicer joined Dana Loesch on TheBlaze TV's "Dana" just hours after Glenn Beck issued an open letter to the RNC requesting TheBlaze TV host the ninth GOP presidential debate, Feb. 26, 2016.

Beck's letter to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus comes only days after the GOP suspended its partnership with NBC News, citing frustrations with last month's CNBC Republican presidential debate and on the heels of calls from candidates like Carly Fiorina that TheBlaze moderate a debate.

"There's some top-notch journalists there throughout the different platforms TheBlaze has," Spicer said when Loesch asked how Beck's proposal is being received at the RNC headquarters. "So it would definitely be one of the top considerations."

Spicer told Loesch the top priority is meeting with the candidates to determine what their biggest concerns are and what assurances they need in order to move forward.

If those requests are not being met under the current structure, Spicer said the RNC has an "obligation" to sit down with several networks — including TheBlaze — and ask them what kind of debate they would produce.

"This is and always should be and will be about what's in the candidates' best interest," Spicer told Loesch.

According to Spicer, the RNC made it a priority that every debate in the 2016 election cycle have a conservative media partner, like National Review, the original partner for the now-suspended NBC News debate.

"The reason that conservative media is at the table at each of these debates is because of the RNC," Spicer said. "We need to highlight the intelligence of conservative media over the silliness of mainstream media, and the more we can do that, the better for our party and the better for our country."
