Donald Trump told Fox News Monday night that his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. would not necessarily apply to those serving in the military overseas.
"Donald, what about the members of our U.S. military who are Muslims and serving overseas tonight? What do you say to them? They want to come home," host Greta Van Susteren told Trump.
"They'll come home. And we have to be vigilant," Trump responded, adding he would "take care of" Muslims living in U.S.
Van Susteren pressed Trump for a more clear answer.
"Maybe you didn't hear my question right. There are Americans swerving in our military who are Muslims who are overseas on our bases. Do you apply this rule to them?" she asked.
"No, they would come home," adding again that "we have to be very vigilant."
On Monday, Trump called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” until lawmakers “can figure out what is going on.” He added to The Hill that his ban would apply to "everyone," including Muslim U.S. citizens currently abroad.
