Middle School Teacher Asks Muslim Student if She Has Bomb in Her Backpack. Here's How That Went Over.

“My daughter wanted to know why she was asking her that."

An 8th-grade Muslim student was headed to class at her Georgia school Monday morning when a teacher stopped her and asked what was in her backpack.

Abdirazik Aden, the girl's father, told WSB-TV his daughter replied that there were books inside.

Then the Shiloh Middle School teacher asked the 12-year-old if there was a bomb in her backpack, Aden added to the station.

“My daughter wanted to know why she was asking her that,” Aden said.

It's not clear what happened next between the student and teacher at the Snellville school, but WSB said the girl's family filed a report that made its way to the school board. While the assistant principal's investigation found the remark "was not appropriate," it's believed that the teacher had no "ill intent."

Aden — who was born in Somalia — said he received an apology.

"You know who you are, you're not a terrorist," Aden said he told his daughter afterward. "Other people's judgments don't matter."

WSB noted that the school is discussing with the teacher appropriate ways to address students.
