Trump: Ted Cruz Is 'Worse Than Clinton

"Yeah, that’s worse than Hillary, when you think about it."

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump used an Iowa campaign event Wednesday to accuse rival candidate Ted Cruz of being "worse than Clinton," saying that the Texas senator has misled the public about his Canadian birth and his Wall Street loans.

"He said with him being a Canadian citizen, 'Oh, I didn’t know that.' How did he not know that?" Trump questioned. "Then he said with the loans, 'Oh, I didn’t know that.' Smart guy. He doesn’t know that? Yeah, that’s worse than Hillary, when you think about it."

Trump went on to tell the crowd that Cruz purposefully did not disclose his two loans — one from Goldman Sachs and the other from Citibank — because of the image he was trying to build of himself. The real estate tycoon also said that those banks now "own" Cruz.

"The problem is he didn’t do it purposely because what he wanted to do is say, 'I will protect you from Goldman Sachs. I will protect you from Citibank, and I will protect you from the banks because I’m Robin Hood, and I’m this wonderful senator and I’m going to protect you from these banks,'" Trump said.

"And then he’s borrowing from the banks. And, by the way, he’s got personal guarantees, and he’s got low-interest loans. He’s got low-interest loans. They’re low-interest," Trump continued, "and now he’s going to go after Goldman Sachs? Doesn’t work that way. Goldman Sachs owns him. Remember that, folks. They own him."

Trump told Iowans that they should keep Cruz's bank loans in mind when they show up to caucus on Feb. 1.

"Very strong, that signature on the bottom," Trump said of the loans. "You sign that, you got problems if you make mistakes. He didn’t put down two big banks loaning him money because he didn’t want you to see that. That’s a problem, OK? That’s a problem. And I think when you go to caucus you should think about that problem, OK? You should think about it."

Trump has been blasting the Texas Republican all week, mostly attacking Cruz for his birthplace and banks loans. Also on Wednesday, during a radio interview with the "Howie Carr Show," Trump labeled Cruz's failure to disclose his loans a "tremendous sin."

"He’s trying to be like he’s Robin Hood and the banks, he’s gonna get the banks. But in the meantime he’s borrowed from the banks, he’s personally guaranteed, and he didn’t put them on his personal financial disclosure form, which is a tremendous sin," Trump said, according to Buzzfeed News. "I mean, that’s a horrible thing he did. And he didn’t disclose all of this information."
