The 2016 election cycle has defied conventional wisdom as “outsider” Donald Trump heads toward the Republican nomination, and other candidates far outside their parties' establishment such as Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) have considerable support.

Many polls show that voters are simply sick of the traditional system, which enriches the political elites living inside the Washington Beltway.

A December 2015 Census Bureau report confirmed that there has never been a better time to be a D.C. insider, with five of the seven richest localities in the entire nation located around the capital.
