In the video, the gunman can be seen sneaking up behind the victim while he took cover behind a pillar and firing without hesitation.

The unedited video was aired on Fox affiliate KDFW-TV Thursday night.

A total of 12 officers were shot and at least five were killed in a shooting in downtown Dallas during a protest against police-involved shootings.

At least one suspect was in custody on Thursday night and a "person of interest" had surrendered. The man claiming to be the person of interest's brother told media outlets that his sibling turned himself in to prove he wasn't involved in the fatal shooting.

The gunfire broke out around 8:45 p.m. Thursday. Live TV video showed protesters marching along a street in downtown when the shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover.

The Dallas police chief said it appears at least two snipers opened fire on officers from an elevated position.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
