Even Dem Senator Won't Defend Clinton Donor's Appointment to Top State Department Job

"I'm not sure that was a good idea."

Sen. Claire McCaskill says she's "not sure" the appointment of a top Clinton Foundation donor to a cushy State Department job was a good idea.

The Missouri Democrat, who supports Hillary Clinton, was asked by Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace about recent reports of "pay to play" allegations within then Secretary Clinton's State Department.

“You say that there were no favors, let’s talk about another case, Rajiv Fernando," Wallace said. "He was a securities trader who gave at least $1 million to the [Clinton] foundation and was appointed to the International Security Advisory Board, even though he had absolutely no qualifications and no experience in that area.”

While McCaskill had defended her party's nominee for president up until that point in the interview, she didn't even attempt to make the case for Fernando's appointment.

“I’m not sure that was a good idea," McCaskill responded, quickly changing the subject to talk about the work of the Clinton Foundation, rather than the sources of its funding.

But Fernandez hasn't just donated money to the Clinton Foundation. He's also given thousands of dollars to Clinton's two presidential campaigns. He's also helped fund various Democratic House and Senate races, according to CNN.
