Police Say Florida Man Fatally Shot His Cousin to See if Bulletproof Vest 'Still Worked

"Let's see."

A Florida man fatally shot his cousin Saturday in an effort to see if a bulletproof vest "still worked," according to WKMG‑TV.

According to a Tampa police report, Joaquin Mendez, 23, put the vest on and "wondered aloud whether it still worked." His cousin, Alexandro Garibaldi, 24, then pulled out a gun and replied, "Let's see."

Officers who responded to the scene found Mendez with a gunshot wound in his chest. He later died after being transported to a hospital.

According to the report, Garibaldi initially told police that he found his cousin wounded after he heard a gunshot, but police said they have a witness who described seeing Garibaldi shoot Mendez.

WFLA-TV reported that Garibaldi faces charges of manslaughter with a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
