Police in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, are searching for an unnamed man who allegedly bit off his roommate's ear during a heated discussion about newly minted President Donald Trump.
Salatiel Marcos Ortiz, 30, told police that he returned to his apartment early Monday morning to find his roommate in an agitated state after watching Trump on the news. He also alleged his roommate had been drinking beer and was extremely confrontational upon Ortiz's arrival home. Ortiz said that his roommate, who police would not identify by name, insisted that Trump was going to deport him and send him back to Mexico, where both men are from originally. Ortiz also stated that his roommate is a legal resident of the United States and they had been roommates for five to six months.
After a spirited conversation about Trump's immigration policies, none of which have been officially proposed, Ortiz said his unnamed roommate became aggressive and attacked him, breaking his finger and biting off a chunk of his ear. When the unnamed roommate threatened to kill Ortiz with a knife, Ortiz made his escape from the apartment and ran to a nearby gas station for help.
"All he would say is 'if Donald Trump gonna take me out, I gotta kill so many people, then somebody kill me and I am happy,'" Ortiz told Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA TV. He also told reporters he saw the piece of his ear fall to the floor, and then noticed blood falling all over his clothes.
Ortiz was taken to a local hospital while police recovered his ear at his apartment. They brought it to the hospital where doctors stitched his ear back together. Officials said when they arrived at the apartment, there was no sign of the alleged assailant.
According to KDKA, Ortiz does not remember his roommate's last name and does not think he is still in the Pittsburgh area. Investigators say they have identified the alleged assailant and are searching for him.
