Critics blast Jessica Simpson over this public photo of her 5-year-old daughter

Singer and business entrepreneur Jessica Simpson faced the wrath of the internet Tuesday after sharing a photo of her 5-year-old daughter, Maxwell Drew, posing with a scooter and in a two-piece child's swimsuit.

Simpson posted the photo, captioned "Safety first," to her Instagram account — which boasts nearly 4 million followers — and immediately the criticism began pouring in.

“She is way too young to be in a bikini,” one commenter wrote. “She is f***ing five.”

Another fan went as far as to liken Simpson's photo-sharing to the infamous JonBenét Ramsey case.

“I like Jessica, and I think this picture is cute, but it should only be shared privately. Otherwise I’ve got 2 words for you: JonBenét Ramsey,” the commenter said.

Others excoriated the singer for sharing her daughter's image on her page for fear of sexual objectification.

“WTF @jessicasimpson , [sic] you know there are PEDOPHILES, POSSIBLY GETTING OFF TO HER RIGHT NOW!!!" one commenter wrote. "SEXUAL EXPLOUTATION [sic] OF A MINOR, I GET IT SHE’S CUTE BUT PEDOPHILES WON’T THINK SHE’S JUST CUTE!!”

Many even called for Simpson to take down the photo from her social media page altogether, while some directly attacked her parenting.

“You should take it down. People have such weird ideas today, sick ideas. It is ashamed [sic],” a commenter blasted.

Another fan projected her own personal thoughts of Simpson's parenting.

“I can just hear JS saying, ‘Gimme some pout girl! And stick your butt out!’ IMO she’s creating a monster for HERSELF later in life," the commenter wrote. “But hey, it’s her kid. Not sexualizing, just the attitude. Teenage girls are sassy enough. Trying to keep them safe and respectful is a battle to which JS and her husband will most likely struggle with.”

One commenter even said that the photo was an essay in how to manipulate men.

"That's just not right there [sic] too many Child [sic] molesters for her to post something like that it's not cute it's dangerous, it doesn't matter how many security [sic] you have. Starting her out how to manipulate men! Not a good look at all."
