Poll: Democratic Party approval rating drops to lowest level in 25 years

The Democratic Party’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest level in a quarter of a century, according to a new CNN poll — but Republicans are doing even worse.

What did the poll find about Democrats?

According to the poll conducted for CNN by SSRS, just 37 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of Democrats, a drop from 44 percent in March of this year. Meanwhile a majority — 54 percent — have an unfavorable view of the party.

CNN noted that the dip comes amid Democratic Party infighting, such as allegations by Donna Brazile, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee, that the party’s 2016 primary was rigged against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

What did the poll find about Republicans?

Meanwhile, just 30 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the Republican Party, according to the poll. A majority — 61 percent — said they have an unfavorable opinion of the GOP.

What does it mean?

CNN noted that both parties are approaching “rock bottom” as voters in some states go to the polls on Tuesday, including highly anticipated in governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey.

It also means that both parties need to seek ways to improve their perceptions among voters heading into the 2018 midterm elections.
