A loyal dog in Brazil has waited patiently on a pink and white striped rug outside the hospital waiting for the return of his owner who died there five months ago, according to The Independent.
What happened?
The dog chased the ambulance for miles to the hospital where his homeless 59-year-old owner was taken after being stabbed during a street fight last October.
Now, the grieving dog, which apparently has no name, refuses to leave the entrance of the Santa Case de Novo Horizonte hospital.
“This dog stays every day at the door of the Santa Casa de novo horizonte hospital waiting for its owner who unfortunately passed away,” wrote Cristine Sardella who has chronicled the dog's sad story on Facebook.
Has anyone tried to help the dog?
Hospital workers have tried to help the dog who rarely leaves his spot.
Employees have given him food and water.
They also found a kennel that would take him and try to find him a new owner.
But the grieving dog escaped the kennel when a new owner tried to adopt him and returned to the hospital to wait for his owner.
“We have a lot to learn from animals,” Sardella wrote. “He may be waiting in vain, but the love he feels for his owner is eternal.”
