Amazon employee who was upset by co-worker's joke charged with attempted murder for alleged box cutter attack

An Amazon warehouse worker was charged with attempted murder and more after he allegedly attacked a co-worker with a box cutter after he was upset by a lunchtime joke.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested a man following an incident at an Amazon facility after an alleged confrontation in which an employee struck another employee with a box cutter, causing lacerations, KVVU-TV reported.

According to a police report, the victim was eating lunch with suspect Kenneth Durhal among a group of other people when he made a joke that upset Durhal. The accused then reportedly asked the other man to follow him into a locker room to have a discussion.

The suspect allegedly went to his locker to a grab a silver box cutter, then eventually the pair went into a bathroom that connects to the locker room.

Once in the bathroom, Durhal allegedly brandished the box cutter and proceeded to hit and cut the victim, causing lacerations on the victim's head and neck. The victim reportedly pushed back and punched the suspect twice, in an apparent act of self-defense.

The victim told police that Durhal put him in a headlock and said that he was "going to kill him," with a witness additionally having reported that he heard the suspect say, “I’m going to end this fool.”

Then, Durhal allegedly tried to take the fight outside, but onlookers intervened and convinced the victim to stay inside until police arrived.

Investigators acquired surveillance video along with evidence of blood from the scene.

Police later arrested Durhal at his home the next day, and he was charged with battery with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

Durhal was interviewed by police and reportedly denied using a box cutter in the incident. He allegedly stated that he simply grabbed his wallet and phone charger from his locker, but police reported that his story was inconsistent.

This incident came just three weeks after a different box cutter incident at an Amazon facility in Tukwila, Washington. After an altercation, an employee allegedly cut a co-worker's face with a box cutter early in the morning. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, resulting in a manhunt.

Police said that the incident started as a dispute, then escalated into a physical fight before the weapon was allegedly used.
