Georgia woman pleads guilty to trafficking fentanyl, meth out of Buckhead, 8 others included

Nine people in Georgia have reportedly pleaded guilty to taking part in a trafficking ring involving fentanyl and meth. The investigation began in October 2021 and ended in June 2022.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia published a statement on Thursday, saying that Heather Breland, 39, was the individual identified as the supplier of a drug trafficking ring in Buckhead. She was found guilty of distributing large quantities of fentanyl and meth to Raiford Reeves, 43, from a high-rise condominium in the Atlanta suburb.

Court documents revealed that there were text messages and phone calls exchanged between Reeves and Breland, detailing how Reeves was purchasing illegal substances from Breland. After making the purchase, Reeves would supply the seven other defendants with the drugs to sell to buyers.

WSB-TV reported that agents followed Breland on a commute to Macon in order to sell drugs to Reeves. Drug Enforcement Administration agents involved in the case also noted that Breland had a self-storage unit in Macon where she kept drugs that had not yet been sold.

On May 21, 2022, co-defendant Randall Heath took an airport shuttle service to Atlanta. Breland was reportedly the one who scheduled the shuttle to travel to her apartment. Heath eventually returned on May 25 using the same shuttle service, and he was seen leaving the shuttle station with a suitcase and eventually got in his own vehicle, per the report.

When the authorities carried out a traffic stop, they reportedly discovered a kilogram of meth inside Heath's suitcase. Following the incident, agents conducted a search warrant on May 26 at a motel that Reeves and Kendall Howard, 31, were staying at in Warner Robins.

Officials noted that Reeves was in the process of flushing meth down a toilet when agents entered the room. However, authorities were able to gather meth, fentanyl, oxycodone, alprazolam, codeine, clonazepam, and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol during the execution of the search warrant.

That same day, authorities executed a second search warrant on Breland's apartment. She reportedly ran away and got into her Range Rover just as agents arrived on the scene. The U.S. Attorney's Office stated that agents "seized 3.266 kilograms of pure methamphetamine, 14.72 grams of fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, a .22 magnum caliber revolver, two cellphones and $78,353 cash."

A third search warrant was carried out that same day on Breland's self-storage unit in Macon. The authorities found eight pounds of marijuana in a Louis Vuitton duffle bag during the search.

Breland managed to make it to North Carolina, where she apparently changed the license plate on her car and changed her hair color and length.

Sentencing for all those involved has yet to be determined by the court. None of the defendants are eligible for parole, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

“Heather Breland went to great lengths to evade justice for supplying kilos of deadly narcotics to her network of drug distributors in Central Georgia. Ultimately, she was caught and will now be held accountable for her crimes, along with her co-defendants,” U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary said.

“This case is the result of a lengthy investigation by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force, a group of law enforcement agencies working hand-in-hand across the Middle District of Georgia to crack down on criminal organizations doing the most harm in our communities.”
