Texas state Rep. James Talarico, a Democrat, tweeted a photo on December 26 of a Dr. Anthony Fauci action figure.
"I got the coolest action figure for Christmas! Thank you to all the health care superheroes working today. Let’s help by getting vaxxed and boosted!" the state lawmaker wrote.
The box indicates that the figure includes a removable mask.
Many people on social media commented on the Texas legislator's post.
"Cult," BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales wrote when retweeting Talarico's post.

Fauci, who recently turned 81 years old, has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than three decades. He is also currently serving as chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden.
Fauci has been a prominent and polarizing figure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During an interview on MSNBC earlier this month, Fauci said that while it would be preferable for people to get vaccinated voluntarily, if they are not willing to do so, "sometimes you've gotta do things that are unpopular but that clearly supersede individual choices and are directed predominantly at the communal good. And that's what we're talkin' about when we're talking about requirements."
