Twitter suspends GOP lawmaker for 'hateful conduct.' Her 'crime'? She tweeted about 'men pretending to be women.'

Twitter suspended Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.) on the grounds of "hateful conduct" after she tweeted about biological males — or transgender women — competing in women's sports.

Hartzler, who is running for Sen. Roy Blunt’s (R-Mo.) seat, tweeted on Monday, "Women's sports are for women, not men pretending to be women."

She shared the sentiment from her official campaign account, which has since been disabled.

According to Fox News, Hartzler's tweet echoed a line from a February TV campaign spot in which she discussed University of Pennsylvania transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, who has been dominating across all lanes of women's college swimming.

A spokesperson for Twitter told the outlet that if Hartzler decides to delete the tweet, the tech giant will reinstate her account within 12 hours.

"The Tweet you referenced violated the Twitter Rules on hateful conduct," Twitter told Fox. "The account owner will need to delete the violative Tweet and spend 12 hours in read-only mode before regaining full access to their account. Per that policy, we prohibit targeting others with repeated slurs, tropes or other content that intends to dehumanize, degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category. This includes targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals."

A spokesperson for the Hartzler campaign told the outlet that the congresswoman has no plans whatsoever to delete the tweet.

"Vladimir Putin is a murderous psychopath who invaded a sovereign nation causing death and destruction, and is currently allowed to tweet," Hartzler's campaign said in a statement on the suspension. "Yet, Twitter believes the bigger threat is a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee saying women’s sports are for women. It's shameful, utterly ridiculous, and a horrible abuse of censorship by big tech giants to stifle free speech."

Hartzler's campaign manager, Michael Hafner, tweeted about the incident, writing, "Height of stupidity reached today: @VickyHartzlerMO was BLOCKED from Twitter for saying 'Women's sports are for women.'"
