Women of 'The View' join forces to blast Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for implying that Nancy Pelosi is racist

Taken to the woodshed

The women of "The View" united in their opinions on Thursday's show discussing New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's implication that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is somehow racist.

What did she say, anyway?

In Wednesday remarks to the Washington Post, Ocasio-Cortez implied that Pelosi's criticism toward new freshman congresswomen is racially motivated.

The freshman congresswoman told the Post that she felt that the speaker was denigrating women of different racial and cultural backgrounds.

"I kind of thought that [Pelosi] was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm's distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood," Ocasio-Cortez said about Pelosi. "But the persistent singling out ... it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful ... the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color."

What happened on 'The View?'

Co-hosts Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and Meghan McCain chimed in on Ocasio-Cortez's remarks and how they might have effected Pelosi.

Behar said:

Ladies, ladies! It's disheartening — it's like, the enemy is the guy tweeting in his toilet. ... Not each other, stop it! Stop it! It makes me sad. ... This type of infighting is not helping. I don't know about going to race right away, it's like, really, that's where you go right away? I thought that that was a bit much, frankly.

Goldberg said:

I have a problem with how all these young women started out when they were accusing older Democrats like myself of not getting what needed to be done in the country and started saying ... you haven't done this. ... For me, when you start out telling people that they don't know what they're doing, and get out of the way, it's annoying to people. I don't think this had to do with color, but ... more BS. ... Please remember that the people who are here now ... you're on the shoulders of a whole bunch of people who came before you. You have to stop discounting that.

Hostin said:

I think you're seeing a generational clash ... and it's unfortunate because I would hope that they could work together, and that Pelosi would harness this sort of fervor that they have brought into the party. ... There can be power if the two generations get together.

McCain said:

It's Pelosi who delivered midterms. That's what I would say to these four women. It was her leadership ... she's 79 years old. She could be with her grandkids, she could be with her family, and I don't like her, I don't agree with her politics, but she's still serving her country. That deserves respect from younger generations.
