Listen: Canadian school board decides the word ‘chief’ is offensive. Here’s why.
October 16, 2017
What’s the next ordinary word deemed offensive by the PC bureaucracy?
The Toronto District School Board has decided to eliminate the word “chief,” arguing that it’s offensive to indigenous people. The school board says the decision to replace “chief” with “manager” is based on recommendations from Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
One writer with an indigenous background wasn’t happy with the decision. Wayne K. Spear, a member of the Haudenosaunee, or Six Nations, wrote in an opinion for CBC News:
“I'm discerning a trend, and I don't like it, and neither do many other Indigenous folks. The trend is to read (or pretend to have read) the TRC's recommendations and to have been ‘inspired’ to do something symbolic no Indigenous person has ever requested and that will have no discernible material benefit.”
Keith had the latest example of political correctness gone amuck as part of the day’s headlines.
