President Donald Trump has removed Steve Bannon from the National Security Council, prompting wild speculation and jubilation from many in the mainstream media.
Sunday on the Lawrence Jones show, Lawrence said, "Here's my problem with this...what I don't get is the media making this a story as if this is somehow something to be celebrated."
Lawrence questioned why the media gleefully believes their sources at any sign of trouble in the White House when sources are so frequently wrong, in addition to making inferences that make no sense in light of the facts.
He also cautioned that Bannon's removal from the council is unlikely to keep him from participating in security-related conversations:
"First of all, guys, he is the chief strategist and counselor to the President. ... He's still gonna get pretty much all the information that is going to happen in all the Security Council briefings and meetings."
As the President's "right-hand man" who "delivered [President Trump] a victory," Jones wondered why many in media are conflating Bannon's removal with failure.
