Chad Prather: We have to raise our boys to be masculine men

Masculinity is not a bad thing

On the debut episode Wednesday of "Humor Me," comedian Chad Prather traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to smoke cigars, drink whiskey, and talk about the misconceptions of masculinity.

In this clip, Chad was joined by country artists John Rich and Larry Gatlin to discuss the current state of men in Western culture, and the lie that is pushed on men by the media.

What is masculinity?

The three men, in a most heartfelt way, embodied masculinity as they went back and forth discussing their views of what it means to be a man.

Masculinity is not being macho, but instead, it is about respecting women, it is caring for a woman. Masculinity is about opening doors and pulling the chair out for a woman, the men said.

The lies about masculinity

Presently, the media has convinced men and women that masculinity is a bad thing, creating the theory of "toxic masculinity" and force-feeding it to the society as though it were a fire to extinguish. This misconception is poisoning the way that men and women interact.

The takeaway

Chad asserted, as a nation, it is imperative that we raise our boys into manhood to be masculine men. Masculinity, not to be confused with being macho, is a requirement.

Masculinity is the source for a man to realize his purpose, to teach him that responsibility breeds healthy pride, and ultimately evolves boys into masculine men equipped to raise the next generation of boys into manhood.

At one point in the video, Chad got personal and shared a conversation that he and his father had about manhood.

"Dad, I want to know how you see me," Chad recalled. He went on to say that he needed to know that his father saw him as a man.
