Governor of Connecticut calls NRA a 'terrorist organization

FACEPALM

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy has likened the National Rifle Association to a "terrorist organization" after Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin called on the Connecticut legislature to remove references to NRA from all state statutes.

“The idea that the NRA should be recognized as a voice for gun safety is ridiculous,” the Hartford mayor said. “If the NRA had its way we wouldn’t be permitting in the first place. This is an organization that opposes universal background checks despite the fact that overwhelming majority of Americans and even a large number of NRA members support universal background checks.”

The NRA is “the single most destructive force pushing back against common sense gun laws,’’ Bronin continued.

Malloy agreed and added, “The NRA today is a far cry from the NRA that in 1999 said that teachers shouldn’t carry weapons in schools. Or in the 90’s said we should have universal background checks. They have in essence become a terrorist organization.”

This means the state will no longer refer citizens to the NRA for basic gun safety courses and firearm permits and will essentially erase all terms and references to the NRA from Connecticut gun statutes.

For example, Sec. 29-10. Commissioner may delegate authority states:

Civilian rifle clubs affiliated with the National Rifle Association of the United States and members of organized police departments may be permitted to use the outdoor and indoor rifle and pistol ranges belonging to, or under the control of, the Division of State Police within the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection for practice with small arms in accordance with such regulations as the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection may prescribe, provided such use of any rifle or pistol range shall at no time interfere with the instruction or practice of members of the Division of State Police.

"National Rifle Association" would be removed completely if these grandstanding politicians have their way.

Sec. 29-28 states, "utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and a safety or training course in the use of pistols or revolvers conducted by an instructor certified by the state or the National Rifle Association."
