Tips for communicating with the opposite sex in a digital age

Tracy Levinson co-hosted "Dana" this week with Lawrence Jones in front of a studio audience of young adults. Tracy led the group discussion surrounding her new book, "Unashamed," and answered questions from the young men and women in studio.

One audience member asked Tracy and Lawrence how she could know if she was leading someone of the opposite sex on accidentally. Tracy responded by urging the young woman to place a greater emphasis on face-to-face interactions rather than virtual ones:

"What I think happens is we are wired for relationships that we are wired for relationship face-to-face. And social media is wonderful, and I use it. I mean Mr. Levinson and I flirt with each other with socila media as well. But I think the tricky part is that you can't read body language when you are texting someone, right? And you can't — social cues, like for instance, like,  you can tell if a guy's kind of getting uncomfortable, or if he's awkward around other people, right? So there are certain things that happen with eye contact and our body language that you just can't read through social media, right? So I think that it is helpful to eliminate some of that texting in the beginning of the relationship and not be as available."
