Watch: Glenn: Trump needs to start building the embassy in Jerusalem or 'it will never be built

Glenn Beck

What’s going on?

A lot. President Donald Trump started an international ruckus earlier this month with the simple announcement that the U.S. was officially recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. That decision is the first step in moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a city that is a source of controversy between Israelis and Palestinians, both of which have laid claim to it.

How is the rest of the world responding?

The United Nations denounced Trump’s decision with a demand that the U.S. rescind its official recognition of Jerusalem. U.S. ambassador Nikki Haley refused to do so, vetoing the U.N. resolution that re-established the view that no country should place an embassy in Jerusalem.

What else should I know?

Vice President Mike Pence had been planning to take a trip to Egypt and Israel, but the trip has been postponed until sometime in mid-January.

The White House said the delay is so Pence can be in Washington in case he needs to be a tie-breaker vote on the GOP’s tax reform bill … and definitely not because of the unrest in the Middle East after Trump’s announcement on Jerusalem. But Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas canceled a planned meeting with Pence after Trump’s address along with Muslim and Coptic Christian leaders in Egypt.

Glenn’s take:

It’s shameful that U.S. allies have not had “the backbone” to stand with America and Israel for the true capital of Israel, but America must do the right thing anyway.

“Please, Mr. President, begin building the embassy or it will never be built,” Glenn said.
