How do you reinvent a legacy company for the digital age?

Wham-O President Todd Richards talked on today’s show about trying to keep up with the times when your biggest sellers used to be Frisbees and Hula Hoops. He shared the story of Wham-O’s founding and took a look at how much toys have changed since then: “It’s a whole new world from what they started back in ’48; that’s for sure.”

Here are some fun facts about Wham-O:

  • The Southern California company was founded in a South Pasadena garage.
  • Its TV ads featured the company’s iconic stylized “starburst” logo.
  • Wham-O introduced the first Frisbees in 1957.
  • The toy outfit also acquired or created iconic toys including the Slip ‘n’ Slide, Silly String and Super Ball.
