Watch: People are freaking out over net neutrality. What should I know?

What happened?

A 2015 regulation known as net neutrality has been repealed, giving broadband providers control over what websites and content they can block or charge more for. Federal Communications Commission chair Ajit Pai has been pushing for the repeal, saying that the Obama-era regulations interfere with competition and stifle innovation.

Will this change my internet?

In the near future, no, since the repeal won’t go into effect for weeks. Critics of the move say repealing net neutrality regulations, which forced providers to treat all traffic equally, will result in censorship and higher fees for consumers. Pai and other supporters of repeal insist that it will ultimately give consumers more options.

Glenn’s take:

The liberal hysteria over the FCC’s repeal of a regulation that’s only been around since 2015 is way over the top.

“Here’s the reality: The repeal of these regulations will not affect your life … whatsoever,” Glenn said. “And yet, [liberals are saying], ‘We’re all going to die.’”
