Watch: This Texas ice cream shop is giving adults with special needs a chance to work

A Texas entrepreneur is trying to solve the restaurant industry’s biggest problems while also creating jobs for special needs workers.

Howdy Homemade is a Texas ice cream shop that partners with special needs organizations to train and hire people with autism and Down syndrome.

Founder Tom Landis joined today’s show to share his entrepreneurial story and talk about why those with autism and Down syndrome are uniquely gifted in this line of work.

“Could we really, truly try and tackle two of the biggest problems in the restaurant industry?” Landis remembered his big questions when he built the business. “What if we could fix [employee turnover and poor customer service] by hiring people with special needs?”
