Tom Brokaw praises Obama as 'scandal-free

One could legitimately argue that President Barack Obama has seen his share of scandals during his two terms in office.

Benghazi. Fast and Furious. Veterans Affairs. Syria. IRS targeting conservatives. NSA spying on Americans. Hillary Clinton's home email server. $400 million delivered to Iran amid U.S. hostage release. Bowe Bergdahl. "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor."

But veteran news anchor Tom Brokaw doesn't see it that way.

“He's been scandal-free, frankly, in the White House," Brokaw said of Obama after his Tuesday farewell address. "We haven't had that what for a while. There have been some issues around his campaign, but they've not settled on him.”

Top Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett also said as much last week, noting: "The president prides himself on the fact that his administration hasn’t had a scandal, and he hasn’t done something to embarrass himself.”

Brokaw also didn't let us forget that Obama is "very eloquent" and can boast of "family values":

So he's very eloquent. You cannot take that away from him. He's one of the most eloquent presidents we've had for a long, long time. And the celebration of his family I think is an important part of his legacy as well, because whatever people feel about his politics, when you look at Michelle and the two daughters and how they've conducted themselves in the White House, I think that should give everyone a good feeling about their family values.

To be fair, Brokaw interjected some critiques of Obama after his "scandal-free" assessment, Newsbusters reported:

They lost control of the Congress, 75 percent of the state houses are in the hands of Republicans with governors and attorneys general out there ... I think the other issue that is troubling to a lot of people and his national security circles [is] the fact that he stood back with Syria, and that ... he kept moving the red line and what happened is that Putin saw that, moved in and we have had a terrible human rights tragedy going on in Aleppo, Syria, and there's almost no response from this White House on that.
