Al Gore thinks the fight against global warming is the same as combating slavery, apartheid

Former Vice President Al Gore, who has made a name for himself as a climate change warrior since his defeat in the 2000 United States presidential elections, seems to believe the fight against global warming is tantamount to combating slavery, apartheid, and nuclear proliferation.

While he was delivering a speech Thursday during the EcoCity World Summit in Melbourne, Australia, Gore reportedly argued that fighting global warming is “in the tradition of all the great moral causes that have improved the circumstances of humanity throughout our history.”

“The abolition of slavery, woman’s suffrage and women’s rights, the civil rights movement and the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, the movement to stop the toxic phase of nuclear arms race and more recently, the gay rights movement,” the former veep said, according to Climate Depot.

Gore also warned during his address that “a future generation,” presumably suffering from the impact of unchecked climate change, will wonder why today’s leaders didn’t act while “Mother Nature was screaming at you.”

“If they live in a world of political disruption and chaos and diseases, stronger storms and more destructive floods and worse droughts and sea level rise forcing retreat from coastal cities and political chaos,” Gore said, “they would be justified in looking back at us and asking, ‘What were you thinking?’”

Marc Morano, executive editor of Climate Depot, told Fox News that his transcript of Gore’s remarks are based on an audio recording of the event because the summit’s organizers barred reporters from videotaping the speeches. Members of the media were also instructed not to take photos during the event, which began Wednesday and will end Friday.

It should be noted this is not the first time the climate change activist has compared his mission to overcoming slavery. In fact, just last month, speaking during a green energy awards ceremony, Gore said the climate movement is among the “great moral causes that have transformed and improved the outlook for humanity.”

“It was wrong to allow slavery to continue, it was wrong to deny women the right to vote, it was wrong to discriminate on the basis of skin color or who you fell in love with,” he charged, according to The Guardian.

And in addition to comparing his pet issue to the darkest hour in America’s history, Gore has also likened climate change “deniers” to alcoholic fathers who lose their tempers when the topic is discussed.

He told The Washington Post in 2013 that the conversation about global warming has been slowed down because those on the fence about the issue “fly into a rage when it’s mentioned.”

“It’s like a family with an alcoholic father who flies into a rage every time a subject is mentioned and so everybody avoids the elephant in the room to keep the peace,” Gore said.

Gore has been making rounds in the speaking circuit recently as he promotes the release of his forthcoming documentary, “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,” a follow-up to his 2006 global warming documentary, “The Inconvenient Truth.”

The upcoming documentary is slated to premiere in early August.
